Healing Mandalas
by Rev. Robb Seal
A meditative healing mandala (Sanskrit for “circle”) is a tool for transformation and balance. Color and geometric form can have a powerful effect on the conscious and subconscious mind, as well as the body. Mandalas are often viewed as a representation of the Universe, or the relationship between self and whole.
These designs can be placed in a sacred space, used as tools for visual meditation, or simply enjoyed as art. As you focus on the image, let your intuition guide you. What emotions or sensations do the colors make you feel? Does sitting peacefully with the design conjure up recollections or visions of any kind? Take note of where your eye tends to rest and which portions of the design you seem to avoid. See if you can detect a pattern of movement. Notice these things and be aware of them, without necessarily feeling the need to correct or change.
For years, I have drawn hundreds of mandalas, many of them inspired by specific conditions or situations that myself, relatives, friends, or clients were currently working with. I integrate these designs into my private practice as a holistic health practitioner.
